Role Responsibilities

This is a full-time on-site role for a Direct Support Professional located in Portland, OR. The Direct Support Professional will provide day-to-day support and care for individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring their well-being and helping them achieve their personal goals.

Direct Client Support:

  • Develop and implement personalized training programs.
  • Actively contribute in weekly staff meetings.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document client progress.
  • Apply behavior management techniques and behavior plans as necessary.
  • Execute emergency procedures when required.

Community Integration:

  • Identify and facilitate community activities based on client interests.
  • Plan and organize individual and group outings.
  • Arrange client transportation as needed.

Client Well-being:

  • Support meal preparation, ensuring adherence to dietary needs.
  • Ensure clients’ hygiene, clothing, and rest needs are met.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary environment.
  • Safely use and operate assistive equipment, such as lifts and wheelchairs.

Health & Medical Care:

  • Address medical emergencies and administer medication.
  • Document client health changes according to policies and guidelines.

Professional Conduct:

  • Treat clients with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain positive collaboration with staff and represent the agency professionally.
  • Comply with HIPAA, OAR, and agency policies.

Training & Compliance:

  • Complete required agency and state certifications.
  • Attend assigned meetings and trainings.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift and carry 25-100 pounds independently.
  • Perform continuous physical activities such as standing, walking, and using hands/arms.
  • Occasionally climb stairs and ramps.

Miscellaneous:

  • Provide on-call services as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1-2 years of direct caregiving experience, ideally in a role supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
  • Passion: A strong, genuine desire to work with adults with I/DD, demonstrating a deep commitment to enhancing their quality of life.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate positively with adults with I/DD, their families, community members, and program staff.
  • Calm Under Pressure: The capacity to remain composed in high-pressure or emergency situations, with the ability to respond promptly and effectively.
  • Background Check: Must consent to and successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Driving Requirements: A valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license, automobile insurance, and a clean driving record are essential.
  • Health Requirements: In accordance with federal and Oregon Health Authority mandates, all staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the time of hire.
  • Preferred Skills: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable.

Certifications:

  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Oregon Food Handler’s card
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test (required upon hire)
  • Oregon Intervention System (OIS) certification

Pay

  • $21.00/hour
